Rubona Victorious Children Empowerment center is a Nursery, Pre-Primary and Primary school in Rubona Town, Bunyagabu District. We are dedicated to keeping our doors open to all children in our community regardless of their circumstances.

About

We started Rubona Victorious Children Empowerment Center in 2024 to serve children who, without us, would have no school at all. This includes children from households headed by widows or by children themselves, children affected by HIV/AIDS, children of subsistence farmers who cannot afford private school fees and children who have already been pulled out of the small, overcrowded government schools of the area because their families could not sustain even the modest costs of attendance.Inspired to make a change, a group of parents, teachers and neighbours decided to build a school themselves to make sure no child in Rubona was shut out of an education because of their background.We are still small with close to 400 students and still building our dream, but every child who has walked through our doors has seen tangible improvement in their lives.

Team

Rubona Victorious Children Empowerment Centre is led by a small founding team combining local educators, community organizers and in an advisory capacity, professionals with backgrounds relevant to organizational governance and external partnership, several of
whom returned to Bunyangabu District specifically to contribute to this project after years working elsewhere in Uganda or abroad.Our head teacher carries primary responsibility for curriculum delivery, staff supervision and day-to-day pupil welfare, working closely with a small teaching staff recruited from
within the district wherever qualified candidates are available, both because local teachers bring invaluable knowledge of the community and its families and because local hiring itself
represents a meaningful, if modest, contribution to the district's economy.

Theory of Change

At Rubona Victorious Children Empowerment Centre, our approach is built on the core belief that consistent, long-term enrolment in school is the strongest protection a vulnerable child can have.This however, is only effective if the school can keep them enrolled through hardship, illness and pressures like early marriage or child labour.That's why our Co-Directors have made safe, permanent infrastructure the foundation of everything we do. Unsafe or temporary buildings cost children instructional time and make it harder for struggling families to justify keeping them in school.By providing solid classrooms and sanitation facilities, we reduce lost school days and give more of Rubona's children the chance to complete primary school and sit the PLE on equal footing with their peers.From this foundation, we build outward through nutrition support, teacher training, active parent and community involvement and vocational training so that children don't just enrol, but stay, learn and graduate.

Support

We rely on a mix of school fees, community contribution and external support to fund the school fees and its ongoing construction. Most of our funds go towards replacing our temporary classrooms with permanent brick buildings along with proper toilets and a water source on site. We work with individuals and organizations on both one-off contributions and longer-term partnerships.
